Gina and Ferdinand who are serious back-to-nature conservationists, passionate about the wild things that crowd round the lodge and especially the extra virgin olive oil that they produce; but also epicurean in their tastes. If my room can be likened to a restaurant it would have a Michelin star - its open fire the oven, its beds a perfect soufflé perhaps. Why all the food analogies? Listen up, I’l only say this one hundred times – they are nothing short of magicians in the kitchen. I just would never have thought that the best sushi I would ever taste would be in a remote olive grove in the South African mountains – and made by a Belgian. Then came the meltingly tender pieces of home-reared mutton; and then more than one slice of tart a tatin with ice cream. I think a few appreciative expletives may have escaped me at some point, for which I apologize. Good job the lodge has its own hiking trail looking back across the view my mouth made a perfect ‘o’ – and this time it had nothing to do with food. Gina was right, this place is a slice of heaven. Paradise captured in a garden of Olives Not only is Roberson situated at the heart of the longest wine route in the world (Route 62) but we’re sure you’ll agree it’s also a stunningly beautiful area.Olive Garden Country Lodge is a Getaway gem and they have nurtured an award-winning Extra Virgin Olive Oil too! Ferdinand cooked up a storm, and his talents and flare aren’t only evident in the food department, but also in nature. The pathways surrounding the cottages are punctuated with beautiful features like the occasional Buddha statue, and a hammock chill out space… all wonderfully conducive to that getaway feeling! We cycled, even mustered up the energy to bundu bash up the mountain behind the lodge for spectacular views. All in all, this "eden" is a garden worth escaping to! Chat’s been there, loved that!
